The CA-2 San Diego County Chapter chose to honor an active duty Marines with the first ever Women Marine of the Year Award. The individual selected met and exemplified the seven purposes of the Women Marines Association. The woman chosen was Corporal Cynthia Luna. She was selected from many Marines aboard the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Luna is attached to the 12th Marine Corps District. Corporal Luna is a Single Marine Program Representative for her command. She volunteers in her community by helping with the homeless, various veterans organizations and the San Diego Habitat of Hummanity. She has also worked with Father Joe's Village with the feeding of the homeless program while still doing her duties as an active duty Marine. Luna is planning a trip to China to help students learn English. She hopes to pursue her education once she returns from China. She was presented the WMA CA-2 award by Colonel E. Hastings during the 2015 Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
