San Diego County Chapter earns it's Charter from the Women Marines Association

The Chapter was first organized on November 17, 1963 by a handful of highly dedicated and motivated Women Marines. It was formally recognized by the Women Marines Association August 8, 1964.

The 23rd Anniversary Dinner Dance

This announcment appeared in the San Diego Union on Monday, February 14, 1966.  Pictured are Capt Barbara Lee, who commands the Women Marines Company at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Mrs. E. S. Dowers, President of the San Diego Chapter, Women Marines Association, and Col. Margaret M. Henderson, who retired Jan, 31 1966 as the Women Marines Director.

The Women Marines Association was found in 1960.  It took a few years to get the movement to San Diego and surrounding county, but when it did, the Women Marines in this area never looked back.
